We’re hosting Forest Park, Faith & Heritage Presbyterian Churches on this occasion. The choirs will sing; it will be a moving worship. Plan to attend. Easter Breakfast tickets are on sale, now; they’re $5.00 for adults’ $3.00 for children under age 12; & $12.50 for “family” (which consists of parents & minor children living in the home.) It happens at 8:00 AM on Sunday, April 8. Featured is our usual spectacular meal, with a WONDERFUL egg dish, donut holes, hard rolls, beverages makes your taste buds tingle just thinking about it! Dick Kloes & L.B. Smith are “in charge”; there’s a sign-up sheet at the rear of the sanctuary, to let us know how you’ll help. Set-up will be at 9:00 AM on Saturday, April 7. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, to all who helped with our Mar. 31 “18th Annual Great Pancake Breakfast”. Very special thanks to JT Gall, who sees to “all the planning”, & is chief pancake turner & shepherd. Those who came to eat, & brought friends, played an important role, too! FROM THE PASTOR --- Happy Holy, Beloved! Our friend Jesus has been in the news a lot lately! Did you hear about the documentary film that suggests that just maybe, they have found Jesus’ family tomb? Complete with his wife & child. Hmmm. And then there is the story of the guy in Houston who says he is Jesus! Boy, does that cause a sensation! The second coming of Jesus supposedly is a Puerto Rican pastor who likes to smoke cigars & drink scotch. Hmmm. I’m not sure that this is exactly the kind of press that Jesus hopes for Have you ever wondered why the cross in our church has no Jesus on it? It’s not just an oversight, it is an expression of deep-seated belief. We are convinced -- we KNOW-- that the cross is empty, & so is the tomb, because Jesus is alive. Jesus is Risen. I would say, though, that Jesus IS alive & well & living in Houston -- & Boston, & London. Jesus is thriving in Africa, & Bolivia, even Argentina -- & (can you believe it) even in an exotic place called North America! Jesus is alive & well & living everywhere where people love each other, & care for each other, where they look out for each other. That’s why they call us “the body of Christ!” Experience the living Christ with us, & invite everyone you love to join in the celebration. There’s life happening here! God loves you! Me too! - Pastor Kevin PASTOR KEVIN will be away from April 11 - April 16, officiating at the Florida wedding of Emily Gall & Jared Drury, & enjoying a visit with Florida family . As always, if there’s an emergency while he’s away, call Sue Smith at the church office or at home (262-782-4533); or Deacon’s Member Care coordinator Sandy Reichert, (H) 414-476-5822, or (Cell) 414-430-5564. They’ll see to it that your pastoral needs are met.
Administrative Assistant/ Church Secretary Sue Smith will be on vacation from April 26 - May 14. For that reason, there’s an EARLY deadline (Thursday, April 12) for the May newsletter. As usual, all bulletins will be prepared prior to her departure. If you have an announcement that does NOT get included in bulletins for April 29, May 6, or May 13, please DO make the announcement verbally, during Sunday worship. ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING “Who Is My Neighbor” is the title of this year’s One Great Hour of Sharing special offering. Jesus showed us that “neighbor” means EVERYONE who is in need, from Louisiana to Sudan! How can we live Christ’s commandment to love ALL our neighbors? By TREATING them like neighbors -- accepting their help when offered & offering ours when needed. One Great Hour of Sharing gives an opportunity to share God’s love with neighbors everywhere. In this season of Lent, we focus on what it means to live in righteousness. By giving to the One Great Hour of Sharing, we extend our reach to those whom we would never meet on our own. Your gifts to this special offering bring healing & wholeness to people in all walks of life. Through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, the Presbyterian Hunger Program, through Self-Development of People -- all supported by OGHS -- Christ is exalted as we reach out in his name. New life is offered to individuals and communities through our contributions. You will find pew envelopes marked “One Great Hour of Sharing” in the sanctuary racks through the month of April. Please extend our reach to change lives and communities. It’s amazing what your gifts can do!

Services were held on March 10. Helen’s daughter-in-law, a Presbyterian minister, officiated. Bill Toepfer, who underwent a successful cardiac procedure. For Jennifer Winchell & Tony MacLean, who were wed here on Feb. 24. The couple will make their home in Texas, where the groom, a Marine, is stationed. At the March 17 marriage of Cary Pope & Lisa Carletto. Jeri Gamache, well on the way to recovery from a lengthy bout with pneumonia, & other health problems. She’s back leading “Fit & Faithful” exercise classes. That we received Pat Dettman into membership on March 4. That Spencer Myers was received into membership at the March 20 Session meeting. He’ll be formally introduced to the congregation in a few weeks. For Phyllis Anderson, who began a new job early in March. She’s working as an internal auditor. That Rob, Nicole, Becky & Tommy Martin ALL passed their Tae Kwon Do testing, & have advanced to “Gold Belt” status. Pam, Ed & Erick Leintz have announced that they will be moving to Atlanta, GA, in the near future. With daughter Becky to be married there in October, & Wisconsin’s lengthy winters becoming burdensome, the temptation to relocate proved irresistible. They’ll remain with us until at least June 15. It’s doesn’t seem quite right to put this news in the “Joy” column, for we’ll miss them greatly, & are so sorry to see them go!

A Note of Thanks
Thanks to the church family for the love & concern expressed after my Feb. 28 encounter with “black ice” (which resulted in a hairline fracture of my left elbow.) I am blessed: it was my LEFT elbow, & it could have been SO much worse! (My doctor decided, after the swelling went down, that it’s not even necessary to cast it!) I’m back at work with my nose to the grindstone God is good all the time! - Sue Smith

April 15 - Sue Smith & the class discuss questions from “The Book of IF” April 22 - Special guest discussion leader Judy Olson talks with the class about IDENTITY THEFT, & what we can do to protect ourselves from this national epidemic. May 6 - To Be Announced The Center for Every Day Spirituality’s First Annual HEALTH & WELLNESS Conference, scheduled for March 24, was postponed. A tentative date has been set for September 22, 2007. We hope everyone in the congregation will save the date on their calendar, for it will be an expanded event over that which was previously announced, with workshops designed to appeal to persons of ALL ages! We’ll announce further details as the process unfolds. In regard to our “Center”, we received the following email: “Dear Greenfield Avenue Friends - I have been thinking about your Center for Every Day Spirituality ever since I read about it in the monthly Messenger. It sounds wonderful! Do keep up your faithful witness to the compassion of Jesus for the world, as you have been doing for many years. It takes effort and time, but most of all your committed will! As Winston Churchill famously said to a Presbyterian College graduating class several years after the end of WW2: "Never give up! Never give up!" God's Peace and Love be with you all. John Gregg” (John was our pastor for 18 years, & retired 10 years ago! Where does the time go?) JJ Saugstad & Kevin Kadunc are members of the Nathan Hale Huskies High School Baseball Team, & the team is facing budget cuts. The “Friends of Nathan Hale Baseball” are holding their 4th annual fund-raiser to benefit the team on Saturday, April 21, from 7:00 - 11:00 PM in the Gonzaga Hall of St. Aloysius Church, on 92nd & Greenfield. The event includes a dance, raffle, and silent auction. Monetary donations and/or items for the auction tables are welcomed. Funds raised will go toward purchase of bats, catcher’s equipment, uniforms, & new safety nets. (Because alcohol will be served, you must be 21 years of age to attend the fund raiser.) Speak to Heather or JR Saugstad, or Laurie Kadunc, if you have questions, or would like to make a donation.
MAYFEST IS COMING!!! On Thurs., May 17, at 6:30 PM, we’ll enjoy a lovely meal featuring home-made meat-loaf, salad, cheesy potato casserole, bread, green beans, & our popular “make-your-own sundae” dessert. Some folks have already “signed on” as performers, but need more, & we’re inviting ANYONE with an “awesome & unique” talent card tricks, knitting, tap dancers, jugglers, singers, musicians to speak with coordinator Terry Arenz (321-7354) & say “Yes! We want to perform!” We’ll also need folks to help set up, serve, & clean up let Terry know. THANKS!
NEEDED: CHURCH PICNIC COORDINATORS
Our Annual Church Picnic is set for Sunday, June 3. We’re in need of folks to agree to coordinate this very special occasion in the life of our congregation. Tell Pastor Kevin or

Training dates at Miller Park are: April 10, April 12, April 24, April 26, May 10, May 22, & May 24, all from 6:30 - 9:00 PM; or Saturday, April 21, from 1:30 - 3:30 PM.
Let JR Saugstad know when you’ll be planning to go; he can check with Miller Park & make sure that session isn’t too full & also, can give you directions about how to get where you need to be! We’re signed up to work games on April 21, May 4, May 28, May 30, June 2, June 22, June 25, June 27, July 13, & July 14.

We also need folks to agree to serve as booth LEADERS. It’s not very difficult, & requires only a little extra work but each booth MUST have a leader.
STEP UP TO THE PLATE, get training, & enjoy the fun, fellowship, & satisfaction you’ll get from helping with this, our highest-yielding fund raiser. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, to all who get trained.

The Dollars & Sense of Giving:
Gifts of Real Estate: If you no longer wish to occupy or manage property and wish to make a charitable gift, you may find that a gift of real property can be a very efficient way to use your property to meet both goals.
If you sell your real estate and have had it for a while, it can generate a sizable capital gain tax, especially if the property is not your main residence.
Through an outright gift, you may get a tax savings. First, in most cases you will receive a charitable income tax deduction for the value of the property. In addition, you will not be liable for capital gains tax on the transfer since the property was given rather than sold.
If you give property that has not been producing an income, your gift does not adversely affect your current income.
As always, consult an attorney, tax advisor and financial advisor.
Call me – I can help.
Happy Giving.

Nurse’s News April 2007 by Lynn Heinrich, RN, Parish Nurse in Partnership with Aurora Health Care
“The punishment that brought us peace, was upon him.” Isaiah 53:5
Warm spring greetings to all of you! As the days become longer and the newness of spring emerges, may we ever be reminded of God’s beautiful presence in our lives. April begins with Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy week. It is the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. “See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey.” These words were written by the prophet Zechariah some 500 years before Christ. Thursday is the day Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with his disciples and the day the “Lord’s Supper” was instituted. Historically, when the children of Israel were in captivity in Egypt the “Passover” was what ultimately gave them their freedom. No plague prior to this one could shake the Pharoah. This one was different. Each household of Isreael was to prepare an unblemished male lamb or goat and bread made without leaven. They were to eat it in their traveling clothes. The blood from the slaughtered lamb was to be put on the sides and tops of the doorframes. The firstborn from every household would die unless the blood of the lamb was on the doorframe. The angel of death would then “pass over” those houses. The symbolism between that unblemished lamb and Christ is one of the most revered in our Christian tradition. Friday, of course, has become known as “Good” Friday because it was the day Christ’s death became our victory -- our salvation was won. And then comes Easter. Jesus rose from the dead! Because of his glorious resurrection, we are saved! Jesus was the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Salvation is ours through his death and resurrection. May the joy and hope of the Risen Savior fill your hearts and minds with peace and joy. Christ is risen Hallelujah!
Spring has sprung so do muscle aches and pains from overuse! Just a word of caution as you don your garden gear and head to the back forty. Remember, there are muscles you may not have used much in the past few months. If you do find yourself with some muscle soreness or achiness, try a warm bath, heat, and some Tylenol for the discomfort. Rest will usually relieve the discomfort. If pain persists or is sharp or sudden, consult your doctor. Enjoy the opportunity to dig and plant but use common sense, take it easy and enjoy! Having a bad day?...Try one of these “Lift your Spirits” tips
