FROM THE PASTOR:

Hi Friends:

As our “Summer of Spiritual Confidence” continues, I’m increasingly aware of just how important this issue is.

You know, we live in a country where 90% of people believe in God, and yet three out of four of them are convinced that God is either mean or doesn’t care about us at all. (Baylor University, 2006). That is so sad!!!

The numbers are staggering: at least 270 million Americans believe in God, and yet 210 million are, at the very least, confused about what God is really like. The confusion is certainly understandable; with the world being as messed up and cruel as it can be, no wonder people think that God doesn’t care, or even joins in on the “smiting!”

And so, we have our work cut out for us. It’s kinda funny, really - we Christians have been sending out missionaries around the world for centuries, when perhaps the most important mission work is right here.

It is no wonder that our nation is so messed up. No wonder people are disconnected from God -- so many of them have these deep misconceptions about what God is like!!!

And so, beloved, it is so important that our “spiritual confidence score” be just as high as possible. We need every bit of spiritual confidence that we can muster, so that we can better share the good news of Jesus with this broken world.

Knowing the loving, gracious God we know through Jesus Christ, we are able to reassure those who are fearful, and disenfranchised. Because we are confident in our God, we are better able to share that God with others. All we have to do is tell our story as we know it. People will respond. It’s amazing how people react when they get to know God as God really is.

It seems to me that somewhere it says: “For God so loved the world ”

Dive right into our summer. Share it with friends and loved ones. God loves you. Me too!

Pastor Kevin

We hope you are enjoying the beauty of the church grounds. THANKS to Sue & Larry Smith for their work on the church office window box and flower garden. THANKS to JT Gall for his wok on mulching all the trees and bushes, working on the pastor’s office flower box and flower garden, caring for the peace garden, & especially for his split wood fence & garden area just north of the Peace Garden.

THANKS to J.T. & his crew of Dan & Kerstin Lefevre, Steve Jakubowski, Alan Arenz, & Kevin Kadunc for their work to place landscape timbers & river rock around the air conditioners in the rear of the church, placing rock in the window wells, & adding dirt & seeding areas in the back yard.

THANKS to those members who have been helping to keep the church clean. The church has been looking GREAT! If you have not had an opportunity to help, please consider helping & sign up. IT”S FUN with a group!

- Ed Griffith

Gail & Dick Kloes, so flexible & generous with their time as office volunteers.

SPECIAL MUSIC for SUMMER

There’s a sign-up sheet at the rear of the sanctuary for those who’d like to sing or play an instrument during worship this summer. There ARE dates available for you to share your musical talents with us. It’s always such an addition to worship. “COUNTRY WESTERN MUSIC SUNDAY” will return on Aug. 5.

Karen Telander Muskowitz & husband, Mark, paid a surprise visit to the church on June 28, just to say “Hi” & see how the church has changed over the years. Visiting friends & relatives “up north”, in Madison, the Milwaukee area, & working their way back toward their home in the east, Karen said they just “couldn’t stay away”, & had to drop in. They were impressed with our many improvements, & send love to all in the congregation. Karen reports that she’s concluded her chemo, & is feeling very well and she’s looking fantastic! She reports that her parents Stan & Rose, in Bloomington, IN, are in good health. Karen & Mark will visit with them & extend our good wishes on the trip home.

It’s NOT too late! It’s NOT too late! You can still receive training to staff booths for Sportservice at Miller Park! We’re signed up to work on July 13 & July 14, (7:05 on the 13; 6:05 PM on the 14th.) The more workers we have, the BIGGER the booth we can staff & the MORE MONEY we can earn for the church! We can even get extra work dates later in the season, if we have plenty of workers! Call JR or Heather Saugstad, 774-1817, to find out how to take advantage of the training!
