We know this is the
JULY issue of our newsletter -- BUT DON’T FORGET
OUR STRAWBERRY FEST ON
SUNDAY, JUNE 27, FROM 11:30 am - 3:00 pm, on the church front lawn!
INVITE EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO JOIN US! It’s a community outreach &
fund-raiser combined, & always provides great food, fun & fellowship!
FROM OUR PASTOR:
Hello, Beloved!
We use the phrase “family of faith” around here a lot - and for a number
of good reasons. The Apostle Paul uses the term in Galatians 6:10:
“So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of
all, especially for those of the family of faith.”
Over the past generation or so, there has been a ton of research into
the way congregations function, and it has been demonstrated time after
time that we tend to operate like one, big, big, (usually happy) family.
And so, like any family, we have our blessings and our challenges.
Like any family, we sometimes have issues. Some members of the
family get along better with some than others. At our best, we
appreciate each other almost completely.
We are a family brought together not by genetics, but by the love of God
in Jesus Christ. We love each other, not because we have been
thrown together by birth, but because we have been drawn together by our
faith in Christ.
It goes without saying, then, that we are called by God, when we have
issues with each other, to work through those with the ultimate of
patience, understanding and love. In Romans 12: 10, Paul calls on
us to “love one another with mutual affection, and outdo one another in
showing honor.”
It is so vital that, whenever we squabble, we do so in an atmosphere of
complete respect and admiration. Let us never forget who we are,
and whose we are.

DIRECTORY PHOTOS
Jenny Lefevre will
be taking your pictures for our 2010
Church Directory on Sunday, July 11, Monday July 12, & Tuesday, July 13.
(If ABSOLUTELY necessary, she’ll schedule on July 14, also.) If
you haven’t already signed up on the sheets at the rear of the
sanctuary, please do so as soon as possible.
We’ve needed a new photo directory for SO long ... it really helps new
folks to get acquainted, & Jenny’s a delight to work with ...
UMPTEENTH ANNUAL POOL PARTY
at the home of Sue &
Larry
Smith, will be held RAIN or SHINE on Sun, July 18, beginning at 1:30 PM.
It’s always lots of fun; there’s shade for those who prefer not to swim,
& the food is always exceptional! It’s a BBQ/Pot Luck, which means
your asked to bring a dish to pass, plus your own meat for grilling,
plus whatever rolls needed for your hot dogs, brats, burgers, etc.
We fire up the grills about 4:00 PM, which means dinner will be 5-ish.
Don’t forget to bring your swim suit, sun screen, a lawn chair & TV
table & dinnerware. Condiments & beverages are furnished.
It’s fun for the whole family as we relax in (or beside) the water,
visit with friends, & enjoy being outdoors in a garden-like setting.
DO let Sue or Larry know you plan to come, for it helps them know how
much soda, ketchup & mustard to have on hand ... SEE YOU THERE!
JULY 4 CHURCH
CHICK-NICK - Our delicious chicken roast will be back,
complete with pot luck picnic, immediately following worship on Sun.,
July 4. Purchase ½ chicken for $7; in return you’ll receive not
only the chicken, but soda, chips, & your choice of tasty foods from the
pot luck buffet! Please BRING: a salad, veggie dish or dessert to
share for the pot luck (but please, no “jello” type foods, for they melt
...); your dinnerware,; a TV tray or card table; a lawn chair; your
sunscreen; & the desire to have a great deal of fun, & do some visiting.
Terry Arenz is selling tickets; she’ll need your reservation by July 2,
please, so the proper number of chickens can be purchased. INVITE LOTS
OF FRIENDS TO COME! WE’D LOVE TO MEET THEM & SHOW THEM OUR GAPC
HOSPTALITY!
P.S. - We DO need
non-musicians to watch over the chickens during worship, as there is
MUCH music in the service, & many chick-nick workers are involved; also,
we need volunteers to accept pot luck dishes in the kitchen, & see that
they’re brought outside at the appropriate time. See Terry, & tell
her “I’ll help!”
COOKIES FOR
HABITAT - We’ve been asked
to provide cookies for the workers at Habitat for Humanity the week of
July 11, & our congregation always responds SO generously! If YOU
can bake cookies to share for this project (they say they’ll need
LOTS!), please bring them on Sunday, July 11. We’ll package them
right after worship, & will deliver them to Habitat on July 12.
The folks at Habitat are VERY appreciative; our cookies are among their
FAVORITES!
