PLEASE HELP PUBLICIZE STRAWBERRY FEST!

THE DATE HAS CHANGED IT’S GOING TO BE ON

JULY 1, 2007

Take a handful of our colorful flyers about this event, & give one to everyone you know!

The best advertising in the world is still word-of-mouth!

STRAWBERRY FEST is coming up on Sunday July 1, & we’re SO EXCITED we can hardly wait! It’s our BIGGEST community outreach event of the year, & it features lots of food, fun, games, family time, visiting, & getting to know our neighbors (near & far) who attend the event! Karin Schmeling is coordinating the event, which is set to begin at 11:30 AM, & run until 3:00 in the afternoon. We feature STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE & SUNDAES, PIZZA, HOT DOGS, SODA, COFFEE, plus an outstanding BAKE SALE. There’ll be music, & games for the children & it all takes place on the front lawn of the church. Of course, we need lots of helpers: folks to clean strawberries at 9:00 AM on Sat., June 30; for set up Sunday morning (we’ll need to start early, at about 8:30); folks to sell tickets, & fill orders for all of our food items; bake sale staff; BAKERS, of course (you can’t have a sale without baked goods!) And we need loans of CARD TABLES to set up in the front yard, & individuals willing to distribute flyers in the neighborhood, the week before Strawberry Fest takes place. Please know that you and your help are greatly valued!

SPECIAL PEOPLE

Prayers for:

Vince Berte, hospitalized following a fall, who suffered compression fractures & some internal bleeding. We’re happy to report that he’s now at home.

Joanne Burke, who had cataract surgery & is now on long-term medication for swelling on the inside of her eyes. Joanne also is experiencing additional health complications.

Lillian Anderson, home now after receiving rehab treatment at Village at Manor Park, (following her April 24 knee replacement.)

Laurel Kortemeyer, having a number of medical tests.

Pat Dettman, who recently had surgery, but continues to experience health problems.

Donna Saugstad, who underwent an additional angioplasty several weeks ago, & was hospitalized May 16 for additional testing. She’s home, feeling well for the most part, but no cause was found for the puzzling symptoms she’s been experiencing.

Barb Brunett, dealing with a medication adjustment.

Lynn Tucker Brown, wife of Synod Executive Phil Brown, now wheelchair bound by cancer. Hospice care may soon be required.

Lori Johnson, undergoing medical testing.

Timothy Cetnarowski, whose medical test results necessitate some perplexing dietary restrictions.

Our friend Lynn Heinrich, babying a painfully twisted (or sprained) foot.

Joy:

For Steve Jakubowski & Rheanne Devenutto, wed here on May 26. Congratulations, & best wishes, always!

For the Ulma family. Matt Ulma graduated from college. in May.

For the 50th anniversaries of Elise Mae & Ken Arenz, & Esther & Gus Hendry, last month.

That we have 2 very generous young ladies in the congregation. Victoria & Alexzandrea Pope, (who will be 8 and 5 years old this summer), have cute new hairdos. The girls donated the lovely, long ponytails which were cut to “Locks of Love”, an organization which provides human hair wigs to those who have lost hair to chemotherapy.

There’s a WONDERFUL feature story on Dick Kloes & his “Root River & Southern” model railway in the July 2007 issue of Classic Toy Trains.

There’s a copy of that issue on display in the narthex. Do take time to read it , & enjoy! (Dick held an open house for the church family last

Donna & Marv Saugstad are happy to announce the birth of a new great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Nicole, born to Erin & Josh Fenzl on May 21.

Everyone’s doing well. (New mom Erin is the daughter of Brenda & Dan Saugstad.)

SPECIAL JOY the Tarvids, as the family celebrates 3 significant anniversaries. In May, 1992, Pastor Kevin graduated from Louisville Seminary; (so that’s 15 years in the ministry). In May five years ago, he received his doctorate; & June 16 marks his 8th anniversary as our pastor. (Time DOES fly when you’re having fun!)

A NOTE OF THANKS

Donna Saugstad sends love & thanks to our caring folk who remembered her with prayers, cards, calls, & other expressions of concern as she went through the last round of medical tests. The support of the church family is so very important, & is greatly appreciated.

Lillian Anderson wishes to thank the congregation for the prayers, cards & good wishes following her recent surgery. She was back in worship with us on May 27!

Congratulations to both these fine young women!

OTHER GRADUATES ???

Time flies when you’re having fun, & it’s difficult to remember which of our young people are about to graduate (or HAVE recently graduated) from High School or College. Please give Sue Smith a call at the church office, to let her know of YOUR family’s graduate(s), the date of the graduation, name of the school, future plans, etc. Everyone in the church family wants to hear this great news!

GREETERS:

June 10 - Gail & Dick Kloes

June 17 - Joyce Zeeb

June 24 - Joanne & Bill

Haschker

July 1 - Elsie Mae & Ken Arenz

A WORLD OF THANKS TO:

The Youth Group (& some adult helpers, as well), who helped with a lot of yard work for Lorraine Beining.

and ...

Terry Arenz (& all her helpers) who prepared & served the Mayfest dinner on May 17. Thanks, too, to all who shared their gifts in the Talent Show, which followed. It was fantastic. (Although Mayfest isn’t a fundraising event, we realized a $63 profit!)

and ...

Our Board of Deacons, who delivered geranium plants to our shut-ins, in May.

and ...

ALL our church musicians, who provided such inspirational music during worship during the “school year”. Choir is on hiatus until the last Wednesday of August, when practice will resume.

Handbells will make their final appearance on Father’s Day.

Your hard work is evident, & appreciated!

and ...

Pam Leintz & “The Bethlehem Stars”, a special addition to our music program who continue to “knock our socks off”.

and ...

ALL our Sunday School teachers, whose dedication & passion for sharing Christ’s message during the Church School hour on Sunday shapes lives, young & “young at heart”.

and ...

Sandy Reichert, who prepared the “Mother’s Day Floral Tribute” bulletin insert, while Administrative Assistant Sue Smith was on vacation.

and ..

Danielle Jaeger, the talented young oboist who accompanied Chancel Choir on May 27.

and ..

Ruth Lefevre, who records our weekly attendance.

and ...

Gail & Dick Kloes, who so generously share their time & talents as office volunteers.

SPECIAL MUSIC for SUMMER

There’s a sign-up sheet at the rear of the sanctuary for those who’d like to sing or play an instrument during worship this summer. Chancel choir’s last day of the season was June 3; handbells will play on Father’s Day, June 17. That means there are LOTS of dates available for you to share your musical talents with us. Don’t delay sign up NOW, to have your choice of dates!

HEIFER PROJECT Thanks to the generosity of our congregation on “Penny Sunday”, our young people have collected $1,416.28 FOR Heifer Project International. With it they purchased a heifer ($500); a water buffalo ($250); a llama ($150); a goat ($120); a sheep ($120); a pig ($120); a trio of rabbits ($60); honey-bees ($30); a flock of chicks ($20); a flock of ducks/geese ($20). WOW!

RELAY for LIFE

is a community gathering where everyone can participate in the fight against cancer. At 6:00 PM on Friday, July 13, our church teams will gather at Nathan Hale High School, 11601 W. Lincoln Ave in West Allis, for opening ceremonies of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of West Allis/New Berlin.

It’s followed by a “Survivor’s Lap” around the track at 6:30. The Relay concludes at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 14. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event -- because cancer never sleeps.

Our church has a VERY committed team. Please contact Laurie Kadunc, (414)257-0196, if you’re interested in joining the team.

We’d be VERY pleased if you’d like to SPONSOR one (or more) of our walkers!

TRIENNIUM Melissa Gall will attend Triennium at Purdue University at the end of

July. To help with her expenses, the Youth Group is selling POPCORN ($6.00 per bag.)

There’s regular popcorn, caramel corn, cheese corn, popcorn you can do the old-fashioned way (that means NOT in the microwave ) Everybody loves popcorn! Can’t you just smell it? Doesn’t it make your taste buds tingle? Stop at the Youth Booth on Sunday morning, & indulge yourself!

SYNOD SCHOOL is July 22 - 27 at Buena Vista University, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Deadline for registration is July 1. It’s a great opportunity to enrich your faith life, in so many ways! See the catalog on our narthex bulletin board for additional details.

COOKIES FOR HABITAT! Once again, GAPC has been asked to provide cookies for the workers at Habitat for Humanity. On Sun., June 17, we need 700 cookies, which you’re asked to bring to the church library. (Don’t worry; you don’t have to bake the entire 700 yourself. We’re just hoping you’ll want to bring several dozen, to add to the total!) The Peace & Justice Committee will package them up just after worship, (& welcome any help you can provide with this process.) The workers are so appreciative even if you can’t swing a hammer, or wire a home, it’s an important way to support Habitat!

A GENTLE REMINDER about our newsletter and/or bulletin announce-ments. It’s REALLY IMPORTANT that we receive the information you need included BY OUR DEADLINES. Newsletter deadlines are always well publicized in bulletins and newsletters; BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS are due in the church office on the MONDAY before you wish them to appear, (& sooner is better!) Thank you for helping us in this way!
